Just got it today so I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. But the fit and finish are excellent to not be a "hand select" option. The blueing is perfect with only a few small scratches and dings (likely from storage and handling) and has absolutely no holster wear on any of the corners! I did opt for the $20 "shiny barrel" option. And while the barrel has grease and accumulated crud, the rifling is proud and sharp! Overall, a great example of this iconic pistol for less than $250! Can't wait to shoot it now!
I received my M57 about a week & a half ago. And it looks great. Not a sign of rust anywhere on the gun. I was half expecting a big glob of cosmoline with a gun in the middle but I was pleasantly surprised. That saved me a lot of work. Actually the gun was very dry. I added a copious helping of oil & CLP to lube it up. I haven't fired it yet but I'm looking forward to it. The extra $40 for the shiny bore & nicer finish appears to be worth it.
Always wanted a tokarev. Like forever, then when i finally went to order one, like magic they were all gone.
Maybe it was the toilet paper scare of 2020 but J&G was the only place to come up with a batch when i was ready to pull the trigger.
So i ordered one.
Took a few days to come usual ffl stuff.
Get my hands on the gun, went to pull the slide.....
Stiff as a board and NOT light as a feather.
I figured 60 year old gun COSMOLINE!
Revert to youtube for takedown which for the gun is obvious but had to make sure..
THEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED!!
There was cosmoline, nothing out of the ordinary there.
The grips are a trip. Thats where the problem was or at least half of it.
The grips have a locking mechanism that holds them in place.
The right grip came off fine as the left.
Putting it back on caused a 3 hour session of cursing and frustration.
Whoever put the grips on had the strength of GOD.
The latch that holds the grip did not clear the frame AT ALL!
Again 3 hours of trying resulted in me using a dremel to file down about .003 of metal to have grip latch work as it should.
Problem one down.
Problem two starts.
Get grip on put on slide and safety.
Pull slide revert back to problem number one.
Initially the problem was the safety installed for import was a poorly thought afterhtought and the safety totally made the fireaem inoperable.
End result was totally remove frame mounted safety and have a gapping hole yoy can see from space exposing the action of the tokarev.
Will require jb metal weld to fill the hole.
Fired the tokarev and ita a freaking rocket!
Nice round overall but god it was a nightmare grom the 7th level of hell.
Would i buy another one? Maybe...
Do i know better for next time
