20 year old here and this is my first milsurp rifle. Now that that's out of the way, I received a lightly cosmolined gun with all matching serial numbers. It was refurbished twice before I got it but the bolt and receiver are the same and have matching service numbers. Due to the matching serials and a little digging online I discovered the exact year my rifle was made (1950) the exact factory and some other neat facts about the fire arm. I got the cosmoline off using mineral spirits and a handgun and lubed it up great. All I need to do now is shoot it. I am VERY happy with the gun I received.
I couldn't have been more surprised when I opened the package . After a day or so taking the gun apart, cleaning and removing all the cosmoline out of the stock with a hair dryer applying a little linseed oil this m48 is beautiful. I'm not sure it was issued. All matching numbers, damn near perfect bore and bluing. Had the cleaning rod and sight hood. Did pay the hand select up charge and was worth it. Great job guy's could not be happier, she's a keeper
Do note that this review only relates to the rifle I received.
I received an M48 that, with a measure of work, is and will become a very fine rifle. It arrived mostly free of cosmoline, and with very little rust. The bore was dirty and fouled, but generous applications of foaming bore cleaner and a bronze brush cleaned most of that out. 20 rounds down the pipe and another cleaning revealed a strong bore with good sharp rifling. My rifle had a sight hood, and a front sight that needs adjustment. Groups are what one expects from a milsurp in good condition, meaning that they won’t match a modern sporting boltgun for precision but are more than enough for hunting and recreational shooting. Trigger is a good two-stage setup. All in all this M48 is a fun rifle to shoot, and I’m glad I purchased it here. The bolt and receiver also match, which is a nice surprise given that so many of these rifles are refurbished.
