Japanese Arisaka 38 trainer rifle, with a Nippon Special Steel crest on the receiver ring. It is of unknown caliber and has a dark unrifled "duffle bag" cut barrel that is designed to shoot blanks and not for firing standard ammunition. Has an Arisaka pattern bolt with an oval knob and a machined spiral pattern safety. Also with an adjustable ladder-type rear sight and a barleycorn front sight without ears. Has the original finish blue/patina metal, and thinning straw finish on the rear sight spring. Also has an original finish one-piece wood stock with Kanji characters between the rear sling swivel and flat steel buttplate. The stock has a few dents and dings. This trainer shows both type 38 and type 99 Arisaka characteristics. It is C&R eligible and is sold AS-IS, for reference/display only as a Gunsmith Special with no returns. Used. GSS
