I ordered the $129 special over Memorial Day Weekend. It took about a week to receive. It was as I expected, DIRTY!. The stock was filthy and there was a chunk of wood missing on the left side of the tang (about 4 inches long by 2 inches). However, It can easily be repaired as it was a nice clean break! More grease and dirt than rust. I hope this was a preservation asset. I did not check the bore The bolt, safety, and trigger assembly seemed to function. I'm working on a t-53 project and when finished, I'll clean this up; so I stored it away. The point of the matter is that I'm frugal and like work on project guns (my job involves weapons maintenance); not pay several hundred for something already cleaned up! Four stars because it's a fix-em-up at a good price! I'd recommend it for the price in today's C & R market!
Good for the price and better than expected, the rifle i received has strong rifling in the bore with no counterbore, slightly grey, the rest of the metal with the exception of the bolt has light surface rust covering all. All furniture is accounted for, the buttstock had two major chips that will need repaired but the rest were only small dents, the upper handguard is cracked in half on one side but can be repaired. All barrel bands are present also. The front sight guard is slightly bent as typical on this rifle. All in all with some work to be done can be made into a decent looking fully functional rifle. I have to give it 5 stars due to being better than expected. I was hoping to be able to just restore and not have to replace parts, also forgot to mention that there are no two matching numbers anywhere. Heinz 57 variety.
Much better than expected for $145. All metal components were in working order though terribly unclean and rusted with minor pitting throughout. Stock was about what you'd expect for being manufactured in 1931 with quite a few pockmarks and chips probably earned during the Spanish Civil War. About 20 hours of elbow grease, rust removal, sanding and bluing turned it into a wall hanger that I am very much proud of, looking forward to getting the 7.62 version.
