I went to pick up the new hex barrel Mosin at the store. He pointed to the box setting in the corner. When I looked at the box I know I was in trouble when I saw the bolt handle sticking through the double box. After bringing the package home and removing the gun for closer inspection (was not going to role the grease covered gun around on his counter top) There was several areas where the stock had rubbed on other items in the box rubbing the finish off down into bare wood. The gun was not packaged properly. It ended up being a 1928 izzy xdragoon. I consider the condition good for an 88 year old gun but not VG to excellent by today's grade scale. The barrel looks like it has just been re crowned by the shiny end and the marks around the end of the barrel. Instead of using the extra 10 bucks for a hand picked gun I would offer the dealer an extra ten bucks for proper packaging.
The HEX receiver is dated 1929 and is in great condition. It was exactly what I was looking for. The barrel is in great condition and was inspected thoroughly, after the cleaning party. Placed all parts in separate bags and put them in the sun. Cosmoline was almost all melted by the end of the day. Afterwards, ran a lot of cleaning rags through, before giving it a good oiling. Then put the weapon back together and shot about 150 rounds through it. It needs some adjustment on the front site. Otherwise, it is a great shooter. J&G Sales provided great service in delivery of the rifle, bayonet, sling, and cleaning kit, including attachments, oiler/grease container, bolt tool, and mag/accessory pouch. Stock has a few dings, but nothing very noticeable.
